What will I learn to do?
The course extends and consolidates the work done at KS3.
The OCR Modular GCSE Mathematics course is separated into two tiers, higher and foundation. On the Higher course students can achieve a grade A* to E. On the Foundation course students can achieve a grade C
to G.
Every student will complete three modular exams taken in January and June of Y10 and the March of Y11. There are 10 modules, M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, M8, M9, and M10. Students will complete three different modules depending on their maths group. Each module is divided into two sections, section A is a non calculator paper and section B is a calculator paper. The best two modules will count 50% towards their final grade and the terminal paper will be worth the remaining 50% taken in June of Y11.There are two tiers of entry for the terminal paper Foundation and Higher.
There will be no coursework element in the Mathematics GCSE the internal assessment for OCR Entry Level Mathematics.
Section contents include:

What skills do I need?
Students need to be enthusiastic, organised and hard working. Mathematics is hard and a degree of commitment is needed for GCSE success.
What is next for me after this course?
Mathematics is a core subject and is a requirement for most jobs and courses that students may want to follow after Year 11. There are opportunities for further study of the subject at KS5.
Necessary equipment for GCSE Mathematics
All students sitting the Intermediate or Higher tiers require the use of a scientific calculator and must bring this to all their Mathematics lessons and examinations. It is important that students are familiar with the functions on their machines and so we ask that all students purchase calculators at the beginning of the course.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide students with a calculator. The department policy is that we do not lend students calculators during examinations.
As well as calculators, students are expected to bring a pen, pencil and ruler to every lesson. Other mathematical equipment is provided by the department.

Students will follow one of three tiers of entry, chosen to suit each student's ability and potential. This is based on their Key Stage 3 National curriculum test results and their teacher's recommendations.
