What will I learn to do?
The OCR National course is made up of various parts called units. These tell you what you need to learn, what evidence you have to produce and what you need to do to get a pass, merit or distinction in each unit. One of the units is selected by the examination board and up to five are selected by school.  Some of the units to be studied are:

Unit 1 - ICT skills for Business
In this unit you will demonstrate your ability to use a variety of application software including spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, word processing and presentation. You will produce a series of outputs to assist a business called Balby Beats which is a local music shop.

What skills do I need?
You have developed many skills in ICT over the last few years in your ICT lessons; the course will build on these and enable you to become more independent.

You need to be creative and able to produce a series of documents/outputs that are professional with a clear house style.

It will be essential that you are able to work independently to create your portfolio of evidence.

What is next for me after this course?
This qualification is an excellent building block for higher study in the subject.  It is also extremely useful for anyone moving straight into employment because it provides the skills often required by employers.

Assessment is 100% coursework.  You will produce a series of portfolios that will contribute towards the achievement of your qualification.  The amount of GCSE’s you will achieve will depend on how many portfolios or units you produce however all are equal to A-C grades.

1 GCSE           2 units   (First Award)
2 GCSE’s        3 units   (National Award)
3 GCSE’s        5 units   (National First)
4 GCSE’s        6 units   (National Certificate)

It will be possible to achieve a pass (C), merit (B) or distinction (A) as specified in the assessment criteria which is dependent generally on the quality and the quantity of work produced.
