This is a two-year GCSE examination course. Most students in year 10 will study the Design Technology programme and specialise in one of the following areas:
Resistant Materials
Graphics
Food
Textiles

Design Technology aims to provide you with an understanding of the role Design plays in society and the world around us. You will carry out a number of 'Design and Make' tasks in your chosen area of Design Technology which will involve:
Examining existing products
Testing materials
Individual research
Developing ideas through the design process
Practical skills
Evaluation

All areas in Design Technology require Information Communication Technology. You will be taught how to use:
Microsoft Office
Corel Draw to enhance design and practical work.
Pro/Desktop for 3D design
Computer Aided-Design/ Manufacture
The internet for individual research



Design Technology has two levels of examination:

Higher Grade A* - D
Foundation Grade C - G

The Design Technology course is assessed in two parts:

Coursework 60% Design and Make Task
Examination 40%

Paper 1. Design
Paper 2. Technical knowledge
