Construction (BTEC Introductory Certificate)
This is a two year Level 1 course and is equivalent to 1 GCSE. The specification has been designed to give students a realistic understanding and experience of construction as part of a broad Key Stage 4 Programme. General Aims are as follows:

To provide opportunities for progression into the industry. |
What skills will i need?
Students need to be organised and keen to learn about the Construction Industry. You need to enjoy practical work, and be willing to experience some of the trades which go alongside. Folder work needs to be presented in separate units so you should be methodical in this respect.
What is next for me?
You may continue your studies with a BTEC First Certificate course in Construction which is the equivalent of two GCSE’s A* - C
Or
You may continue with a BTEC First Diploma course in Construction which is the equivalent of four GCSE’s A*- C
There is also opportunity to move into a particular trade.
Possible careers include:-
- Carpentry / Joinery
- Brickwork
- Decorating
Construction (BTEC First Diploma)
This is a practical work related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on workplace situations and activities. A BTEC first diploma is equivalent of four GCSEs Grade A*-C. As a result this course will not be open to all students. There are six units to this course. The top 3 are core units and bottom 3 are the specialist subjects the students will cover.
With further training or study, students may move into careers in the Construction industry including
