About GCSE's

What are GCSEs?

  • General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)
  • Taken by the majority of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 (year 11).
  • Demonstrates your abilities within subject areas.

How many subjects do I study?

When are the GCSE exams?

  • You have to take 5 - core subjects.
  • Choose 4 more subjects or 4 GCSEs worth.
  • You will aim to pass a total of 9 Of GCSEs.
  • Mock GCSE exams start in year 10 in January.
  • Final GCSE exams in year 11 are May - June.
  • You will receive your Grades around the 20th August.
Why are they important? How long to they take?
  • Prepares you for world of study and work.
  • Allow you choose subjects that you like.
  • Future employers will need them.
  • Needed for Further Education like 6th Form and college.
  • Demonstrate all your hard work since being at primary school.
  • GCSEs take two years to complete.
