Making Your Choices
You are at the stage in your school life where it’s necessary for you to make choices about your academic future.
The decisions you make in the coming weeks will  affect the type of occupation and training you can eventually enter.
This is a very important step so actions must be made from a point of knowledge rather than simply guessing.
You will be given an option booklet from which you will select exam courses.
Some are compulsory due their importance, some you may not of heard of but maybe necessary for a career.

Your Choice
The Government has already decided which subjects you have to take, so make sure that the subjects you can choose are the ones that you really want to study for two years. Listen carefully to the advice you are given and discuss your ideas with your parents.

At 14 (Year 9) you will have to choose the subjects you are going to study for the next 2 years as your GCSEs. You have a wide variety of cources to go for ranging from regular GCSES to NVQs and BTECS so make sure you think about your options so you dont make the wrong choice.
16+ Options
When you have completed your GCSEs you will have a choice of where you want to take your future. You could carry on in education by going into 6th form and completing A Levels or by going to college to do a more practical course.
Alternative options may be to take on a training course or maybe even go straight into work.
17/18+ Options
At 18 yor choices might be similar to the ones above. You could take some A Levels or enroll on a college course. Again you could go into work or if you chose to continue your education at 16 you might want to take the university route.

As you can see there are alot of choices you will have to make regarding your future so when considering the different options you should ask yourself -

  • What do i enjoy?
  • What am i good at?
  • What will the course entail?

When it comes to choosing subjects at GCSE or A Level you might want to think about -

  • What will the subject cover?
  • What skills will the subject help me develop?
  • What jobs or future courses will this subject be useful for?
  • Will there be any exams?
  • Will there be coursework?
  • What subjects must i take?
  • What is a vocational qualification?
